The 5th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at Ocean Breeze Waterpark is looking for adventurers to compete in their
wacky and wet event in September 2008.
The regatta offers families, friends, organizations and business teams a chance to design, build and navigate a unique and fun boat --
made entirely of corrugated cardboard. Think of it as building a float, literally.
Got a friendly rivalry? Bring it on. We'd love to see the Police Department vs the Fire Department, school vs school, Troop vs Troop,
civic league vs civic league, business vs business, restaurant vs restaurant, Chief Petty Officer selectees vs Chief Petty
Officers,
Army vs Navy, Coast Guard vs Air Force, Marines vs National Guard, and more. The combinations are limitless, and so is the fun.
Over the last four years, hundreds of handmade cardboard boats have raced through the course in the waterpark's Wave Pool with the
wave machine off. Those who reach the finals compete against each other and the wickedly fun wave machine turned on full blast!
We've seen plenty of fine seamanship throughout the years and learned that in this regatta, it's as fun to sink as it is to float.
The regatta raises funds to support programs and activities
for underserved youth in Virginia Beach's Seatack community.
The
event is a
collaboration between The Virginia Beach Foundation and
its BEACH FUND, Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia,
the
City
of
Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Department, Taylor's
Do It Centers, the Seatack Neighborhood Assistance Program,
and
residents of the Seatack community. |
